Dairy-Free Cashew & Banana Spiced Smoothie

So I’ve just recently discovered the simplicity of using cashew butter and water, blended to make cashew milk and have been obsessed! Using cashews to create a milk alternatives gives more of a creamy texture without being too high in fat as oppose to something like coconut yet is still low on carbs as oppose to oat milks so it’s been my go-to lately.

As I’ve been cutting down on my dairy consumption, I’ve used cashew butter and water in my smoothies lately and this combination is a simple yet delicious treat. In fact, you can count all the ingredients on one hand! I use a combination of cashew butter, a banana (fresh or frozen), water, ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon. The spices remind me of Christmas and make me feel so cozy in this winter weather we’re experiencing in NZ at the moment. These two spices also bring a lot of health benefits when it comes to reducing inflammation, keeping blood sugar levels stable and also improving mood and relaxation.

I love having it as a morning smoothie or as a post workout protein shake. If I’m having it post workout, I’ll add a scoop of protein powder - usually vanilla or salted caramel flavour for a little extra sweetness.
