Ellerslie Races: New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million

This glamorous night of races that attracts a glittering crowd who gather from far and wide to watch with a prize of $1,000,000 Karaka Million 2YO.

The New Zealand Bloodstock Million is the first race at Ellerslie race course of the year. It gathers a crowd from far and wide to watch 14 of the country’s most promising two-year-old thoroughbred horses, and some of the best jockeys, as they compete for their share of one of NZ’s richest sporting purses – the $1,000,000 Karaka Million 2YO! And if one million-dollar contest wasn’t enough, we've got another million dollar race - the $1,000,000 Karaka Million 3YO Classic!

I attend this event last year with my Dad as he hosted his employees on a fun day out in the Silks section at this event. The Silks section is a premium indoor dining location, boasting a delicious menu featuring a fine array of New Zealand produce and unrivalled racecourse views. It was an amazing spot to be in!

I had so much fun last year that I was excited that Chris and I were invited along and hosted by Ellerslie races for this years New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million. We were hosted in a VIP section of the Garden Party area with grazing platters to snack on, cupcake dessert treats and we were spoilt with an open bar.

My race look this time round was a little untraditional but as a their most glamarous event, I wanted to go with my interpretation of that and with the scorching hot day it was, I wanted to be comfortable too. I wore a lilac midi dress by Bec & Bridge which I hired from Designer Wardrobe with no headpiece but instead pearl details such as hooped earrings, an over the shoulder bag and bracelet. My white shoes with diamantes were Billini. Chris went with a relaxed look as well pairing a grey suit from Politix with an open white shirt and black accessories.

Check out my makeup from the day below! I’m not usually one to get experimental with eyeshadow but wanted to have a little fun so did a purple eyeshadow look. You can see more details including products used over on my actual Instagram post. Just click through to the post below.

To finish the eventful evening, an after party being held in our area which opened up to all ticket holders at the event which was so nice because our friends who were in other areas of the race course were able to join us for the most spectacular fireworks display (it was around 10-15 minutes long!) and a live band playing into the night!
